“From Hank to Hendrix” to now Dylan and the Dead, Neil Young can pay a fine homage to his forebears and contemporaries. His latest tune, “Twisted Road,” feels like a second chapter to said Harvest Moon cut, in which he recounts hearing the poetic lyrics of “Like A Rolling Stone” roll off Dylan’s tongue “like Hank Williams chewing bubblegum.” On the former, Young asks, “Can we make it last like a musical ride?” But this time finds him with the Grateful Dead on the car radio, headed home to “let the good times roll.” It’s a nostalgic song for both its sentiment and chord progression recalling many of his acoustic classics. Above, watch Neil unveil “Twisted Road” live on tour with Crazy Horse at Red Rocks this week.
