Musician/actor Brendan Hines‘ 2007 LP, Good For You Know Who, was a promising debut — complete with standout cut “Miss New York” colliding in both worlds for the film Happythankyoumoreplease — but this tune finds him taking a lovely step forward on the next set. “Could’ve Sworn” is our first taste of Small Mistakes. Understated with just enough hint of restraint, Hines brings the track’s subtle melody home with help from pitch-perfect harmonies after the first verse, and cello laced into the final act. Maybe he’s playing a part here, but Hines sure can carry the singer-songwriter role, too. Hear it above.
