Earlier this month, Jason Lytle visited France to perform orchestral arrangements of Grandaddy songs with a group of students. Between that appearance and Grandaddy’s 2012 reunion, it seemed he’d be focusing on material with his old band for the immediate future, but now comes word of a new solo record — the follow-up to 2010’s Music Meant to Accompany the Art of Ron Cameron and 2009 debut Yours Truly, the Commuter. On October 16th, Lytle will release Dept. of Disappearance, an 11-track set featuring the title track (streaming above) and two songs that were previewed live last year in early acoustic versions. For those of us hoping for a new Grandaddy LP in addition to gigs, there’s even better news: this stuff sounds recalls some of the band’s best work.
