Mick Jagger was joined by Arcade Fire, legendary guitarist Jeff Beck, Foo Fighters, and the Strokes’ Nikolai Fraiture for the season finale of Saturday Night Live tonight for a string of Rolling Stones tunes, comedy skits, an original cut, and lots of surprises. What’s more, Steve Martin and Mad Men‘s Jon Hamm also made cameos for a musical homage to Kristen Wiig in honor of the episode being her final appearance as a cast member.
First up, Jagger was joined by Win Butler & Co. to perform a new version of the Rolling Stones’ 1965 hit “The Last Time.” They weren’t done mining the Stones catalog, though, as Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters joined Jagger for “19th Nervous Breakdown” and “It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll (But I Like It).” All surprise guests and collaborations aside, there was original music unveiled to boot: “Presidential Election Blues,” featuring the great Jeff Beck leading his usual group to back up Jagger’s take on this year’s Romney-Obama battle at the polls.
Last but not least, everyone returned to the famed 30 Rockefeller stage for a heartwarming dance and sing-a-long to Kristen Wiig. Even producer Lorne Michaels joined the cast and all-star band for the festivities. So, without further ado, revisit one of the biggest nights in this year’s SNL season (musically, at least) below (via Audio Perv):
