“Benji Hughes is a good friend and I knew he’d sound great like George Jones, helping fulfill my longtime dream of singing like — in my California, Valley Girl way — Tammy Wynette.” That’s Eleni Mandell introducing the lead single off her new record, I Can See the Future. Rest assured, though, the pair’s duet, “Never Have to Fall in Love Again,” is a total earworm all its own, with a slight tip of the hat to ’70s Nashville and a spare pedal steel accent courtesy of one of the more underrated backup musicians in the game, Greg Leisz. Produced by former White Stripes/Frank Zappa engineer Joe Chiccarelli, the set arrives in full on July 10th via Yep Roc Records. This is a fine start:
