Jack White will score and Johnny Depp will star in director Gore Verbinski’s new feature film adaptation of The Lone Ranger, Variety reports. Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney, Depp is set to play the title crime fighter’s sidekick Tonto, with The Social Network‘s Armie Hammer starring as the Lone Ranger while White produces, writes, and performs the music — including the 1950s television show’s iconic theme song below. “Jack’s an amazing songwriter with a unique style,” said Bruckheimer, who added that Depp and Verbinski were responsible for bringing White on board. “We’re thrilled to hear his fresh take on the ‘William Tell Overture.'”
The Lone Ranger is aiming for release in May 2013. In the meantime, the Third Man Records leader has a solo debut LP to promote. Tonight, he stopped by Later… with Jools Holland to perform two cuts off the record, Blunderbuss, and sit down for an interview. Clips from the show are after the jump:
