While Bob Dylan and Jack White have been off completing unearthed songs by country legend Hank Williams, Tom Waits has teamed up with his surviving grandson for a pair of new tunes (in addition to prepping his own new LP). Last week, Shelton Hank Williams III, aka Hank3, released four multi-genre records, widely ranging from country and doom-rock to speed metal. Waits contributed guest vocals to the first disc, Ghost to a Ghost, including a howling take on the title track’s chorus at the 5:40 mark above and on the foot-stomping duet “Fadin’ Moon” streaming below.
“He’s one of the guys that’s always marched to his own drum and done it his own way,” Williams said of Waits. “He’s just different, and it was an honor. We talked for a long time before we even got close to doing songs together… He felt a lot more natural on the Cajun stuff. He’s always been a fan of the accordion.”
