Though we haven’t checked in on our favorite new NW-based superquartet since last fall’s live video preview — save for guitarist/singer Carrie Brownstein’s hilarious Portlandia series, of course — many developments are afoot from Janet Weiss, Mary Timony, Rebecca Cole, and Brownstein’s latest group, Wild Flag…
The “first Wild Flag recorded artifact” is set to reach the public’s ears this Saturday (3/5), as, per their Facebook, a debut 7” will drop exclusively on the merch table at March shows. If you’re unable to pick up a piece of vinyl this month, however, copies will hit indie record stores on April 16 among a number of new releases taking part in the latest round of Record Store Day.
As for a full-length, the band are “planning on recording their first album in early 2011 for Merge Records.” So there you have it: a debut 7”, tour dates, Grammy-lauded new label, second season of Portlandia, and LP for the not-so-distant future.
*Update: Hear the B-side to the “Future Crimes” 7-inch, “Glass Tambourine,” right now at NPR.
