While I can’t say that we’ll be spinning too many hits by U.K. pop star/X Factor judge Cheryl Cole around here in the future, there are two recent covers of her chart-topping jams that have become a not-so-guilty pleasure at 24B HQ. The first, Vampire Weekend’s take on Cole’s “Fight For This Love,” arrived last month after the band felt so inspired by hearing it on the radio that they immediately hit the studio. Ezra Koenig said:
One day we were in the car driving to the airport and we heard a song that reminded is of KC & Jojo “All My Life” which is a very important song for people our age. We were like “This song is awesome.” Then we saw her on tabloids. Who knew she was famous?
And now for the most recent Cole cover: Adele — who’s, of course, a star in the U.K., U.S., and beyond in her own right — stopped by the BBC’s Live Lounge for an interview and performance of “Promise This,” which could easily tackle the charts if she were to release it as a single. Stream both recordings below and grab an MP3 of Adele’s take here.
