Last month, Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi was forced to abruptly cancel a run of intimate acoustic dates after playing just one show of the “Go Closer” series. “[S]tanding there nose-to-nose with fans in the cold light of day the other day in Origami Records, Los Angeles, he had the sudden and undeniable realisation that this is not the environment in which he flourishes,” said his management in a statement, adding later, “To those of you who saw it in Echo Park, cherish it, because it ain’t going to happen again.”
And now the good news: Two excellent Jack Schlinkert-directed videos from Jónsi’s first and last “Go Closer” gig have hit the Web for all to enjoy. Watch his stunning performance of “Stars in Still Water” above and “Go Do” here.
