Though this intriguing trailer for Autoluminescent, a new documentary about late, great Birthday Party/Boys Next Door guitarist Rowland S. Howard, has been floating around since the spring, the project is just now officially moving forward again. Pedestrian reports that the film — which features Nick Cave, Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Nick Zinner, Henry Rollins, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, Mick Harvey, Lydia Lunch, and others — has finally received funding. Also, Howard collaborator Jeremy Gluck revealed that the doc will premiere at the 2011 Melbourne International Film Festival next summer. I’m thrilled to hear that Howard’s incalculable influence on rock guitar will be getting it’s due.
