While directors Julien Temple and Don Letts have already paid homage to the great Clash frontman with documentaries, Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten and Strummerville, respectively, an iconic rocker of Strummer’s stature deserves the biopic treatment as well, I’d say (provided the film actually does the late legend justice). Well, as The Playlist reports today, Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll scribe Paul Viragh has been hired to write a screenplay for just that possibly forthcoming biopic.
Details about a director or production schedule are scarce of course, as the film, tentatively dubbed Joe Public, is in the very early stages of development, but let the rumor mill begin about who might play the lead. CoS is begging James Franco to steer clear of the role, to which I’d agree before throwing one potential name into the ring: Dead Man’s Bones’ Ryan Gosling. I mean, the guy can sing at least.
