**Update: Sadly, Malibu Magazine’s report that Joanna Newsom will be appearing on The Simpsons has been debunked by Newsom herself. “I remain, however, steadfast as always in my commitment to the character of Lisa,” she joked in a statement denying the story, “whom I have of course had the privilege of voicing for the last twenty-one years, in my dreams. Thanks for the memories, gang!”
Joanna Newsom and Matt Groening are reportedly collaborating on a bit more than a headlining set at this year’s All Tomorrow’s Parties event and a one-off Simpsons-style illustration (shown above). According to Malibu Magazine’s profile on the harpist-singer-songwriter, Newsom’s impressive résumé will include a “future scheduled stop with her harp on The Simpsons.”
When or if said animated cameo might air remains unclear, but one thing that’s for certain is that Newsom will be psyched for the opportunity: “Holy shit! I’m a Simpson! I made it!” she reacted to the drawing alone, back in May. “I don’t need a damn Grammy or anything. That’s the sort of magic all this madness is for.”
In addition to that fun news, Matt Carr’s piece is a good read, if for only its inclusion of Newsom’s hopes to collaborate with “[Robin] Pecknold, Dolly Parton and rapper Nicki Minaj” in the future, as well.
