Martin Scorsese might be hoping he can recruit the great Al Pacino to take on Frank Sinatra in the near future, but it looks like we’ll be seeing the Oscar winner tell the much darker story of another music legend in the meantime. ArtsBeat reports that David Mamet is writing and directing a movie for HBO about iconic producer/convicted murderer Phil Spector with Al Pacino set to star.
“[Pacino] just saw a very interesting character to play, and he likes the sensibility of David and [executive producer] Barry [Levinson],” said Pacino, Mamet, and Levinson’s agent, John L. Burnham.
I, for one, think Pacino portraying the many sides of Spector will be a thrill, but the as-yet-untitled project is only in early stages of development, so let’s cross our fingers that the film makes its way to the screen.
