One act among the all-star lineup of T Bone Burnett’s new Speaking Clock Revue troupe, which includes the likes of Neko Case, Ralph Stanley, Elton John, Leon Russell, John Mellencamp, Gregg Allman, and Karen Elson, might not sound so familiar: The Secret Sisters.
Laura and Lydia Rogers are The Secret Sisters, a Muscle Shoals, Alabama duo that was plucked from obscurity by producer Dave Cobb, Burnett, and Jack White this year. As I mentioned back in July, the pair’s stunning debut album was recorded in just two weeks at Nashville’s Blackbird Studios with the Rogers sisters singing all the songs live into a single microphone. Completely unaware of those fun facts upon first listen, I was blown away by their album’s gorgeous original songs, covers, and — most of all — jawdropping harmonies.
You’ll want to pick up their 10-track LP that arrives October 12 via Burnett’s new label Beladroit, but until then, listen to a handful of songs (including a sample of their Jack White-featuring 7-inch) here and download a free mp3 of “Tennessee Me” here or stream it below.
