“Detroit Has A Skyline” almost made it to the end of AV Club’s Undercover series without a single band taking on the daunting task of covering Superchunk’s Here’s Where the Strings Come In hyper rock cut. In fact, Superchunk themselves even passed on playing their own song. Given Cymbals Eat Guitars’ recent (and brilliant) version of Elliott Smith’s “Ballad of Big Nothing,” though, I knew these guys would be up to the task. Watch Joseph “Ferocious” D’Agostino sing a few lines from Indoor Living opening track “Unbelievable Things,” a cappella-style, just before the band joins him for a face-melting rendition of Superchunk’s 15-year-old song above.
