According to the AV Club, the Walkmen bravely committed “to performing whatever song was last” before all 25 songs in the “Undercover” series had been taken on by the likes of Superchunk, Frightened Rabbit, Cursive (who deliberately (yet honorably) chose the worst song of the lot), Cymbals Eat Guitars, Ben Folds, and many more. No worries, though: not only were Hamilton Leithauser and Co. up to the task, but the timing of an interpretation of R.E.M.’s 1985 single “Driver 8” is particularly apropos as Fables of the Reconstruction was reissued just last month. Sad to see the “Undercover” series go, but at least it’s going out in style… Here’s hoping another round is on the way for next year.
