Though we’d have to crunch the tour date numbers to know for certain, Frightened Rabbit are in the running for the “hardest-working indie band of the year” title, I’d say, as Scott Hutchison and friends have already played countless acoustic gigs, in-stores, headlining sets, festival slots, radio shows, beaches, and a late-night show, not to mention 54 more concerts are booked through December. Meanwhile, the Selkirk quintet still managed to record at least one new song, which is available as a free download bundled with some Lomo images—shot by guitarist/keyboardist Andy Monaghan—upon signing up to their mailing list.
“As is often the case, death rears its head,” Hutchison said regarding the song, “Son C,” adding (via LBYB):
Most days, I think briefly about the way in which I may die, and what will be left behind aside from a collection of fat, muscle, bones and apparently a fair bit of carbon and water. Death is really what defines life – without it the whole endeavour would feel a bit mundane and pointless. Procrastination would be extended to years, even decades – what would be the point of doing anything if you knew you would live forever? So death is what keeps me going, even more so than effervescent tablets…
