The last official music video from Josh Ritter’s new album, So Runs the World Away, was directed/puppeteered by his drummer Liam Hurley, and now Royal City Band keyboardist Sam Kassirer has applied visual treatment to one of his frontman’s songs, as well. Consisting entirely of still images and silent movie-esque title cards (featuring lyrical pull-quotes), the “Rattling Locks” video is billed as a “video/photo essay” by Kassirer. Some background info from the man himself:
[M]ade exclusively with 120mm medium format photographs taken partially over 2009 US and Europe tours, and partially from a shoot with Josh to capture specific images that the song evokes. Locations include the London Eye, The Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans LA, and a piano tuning shop in Somerville, MA. Hopefully it comes across as sort of scary and a little bit funny.
Umm, I wouldn’t call it scary or funny, but hey, it’s a solid video from one of the best songs off the record. Watch/listen:
