Flashback: Dan Auerbach and The Barnburners

I started off the week with a look back at Alison Mosshart’s pre-Kills/Dead Weather pop-punk band, Discount, for the first in a somewhat regular series of “Flashback” posts, in which we get acquainted with the work of our favorite artists before they were stars. And now, let’s head into the weekend with Dan Auerbach’s earlier garage-blues-rock band: The Barnburners.

Before he was one half of the Black Keys with drummer Patrick Carney and many years prior to becoming the BlakRoc mastermind, our favorite Akron, Ohio indie-blues man led this trio with drummer Jason Edwards and keyboardist Kip Amore (later of the Rubber City All-Stars). The band released just one EP, a 6-track, retro effort dubbed The Raw Boogie, which our pal at The Steam Engine unearthed just last week.
