As Cheyenne Marie Mize gears up for a 5-city tour of the Midwest, the Louisville, Kentucky singer-songwriter has offered up quite the treat for fans and Bonnie “Prince” Billy completists alike. Among the Gold, an EP of 19th century traditional songs (or “parlor music,” as some say), was one of my favorite under-the-radar releases of last year, and now the entire 6-track collection of duets has been cleared by the label for all to download for free here (streaming below, as well).
In a press release, Mize describes how she first worked with Will Oldham in rehearsals for an outdoor concert, dubbed Funtown, two summers ago. Although she originally planned on recording these over century-old tunes alone, the pair hit it off while on tour, and the collaboration was born.
In addition to the EP, Mize also has a gorgeous full-length solo album, Before Lately, set to officially drop in September, which I’ve mentioned before. Hear her solo LP here, and downloadAmong the Gold (photo via FB).
