Jay-Z isn’t the only mainstream star inspiring Jack White as of late: According to WENN, the fearless White Stripes/Raconteurs leader has confessed to channeling Lady Gaga for one of the cuts off the Dead Weathers forthcoming second album, Sea of Cowards — specifically, “The Difference Between Us” (video below). The quote in question:
Lady Gaga – I was thinking of the type of song a contemporary musician would write so I started thinking about her. I started thinking of how she would write the music to this song and got quite into being Lady Gaga in an odd way.
Though the “lyrics are all from [frontwoman] Alison [Mosshart], who was coming from a different direction,” the drums, music, and arrangement, are presumably the ex-Cold Mountain/Mutant Swinger from Mars actor’s take on the pop queen formerly known as Stefani Germanotta. This is notably the second time White has mentioned the “Bad Romance” singer this year, as he concisely described Mosshart in three words back in January: “Lady Gaga’s nightmare.”
Personally, I can’t hear the Gaga connection, but check out the band’s performance of “The Difference Between Us” live at Third Man Records last week below and see if you can read Jack’s “Poker Face.”
