Though it would be impossible to replace a legend like inimitable radio DJ John Peel, who passed away in 2004, BBC Radio have found a successor that is a close match, genetically at least: Tom Ravenscroft, his son. The Independent reports that BBC Radio’s 6 Music has hired Ravenscroft to host a three-hour program on Friday nights, starting on June 4.
Ravenscroft, 30, currently hosts Global Soundtracks, a podcast featuring the music of unknown artists from around the globe, and has previously worked as a DJ for Channel 4. He “is a great young broadcaster,” said 6 Music’s Paul Rodgers, “with all the knowledge, passion and articulacy that you might expect from someone of his lineage.”
Peel’s son will be replacing Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson in the Friday night slot as he joins 6 Music’s impressive roster of DJs, which includes Elbow’s Guy Garvey and Jarvis Cocker.
