**Update: Bowie’s reps say a new album is not in the works, sadly.
Buried suspiciously deep in the May/June issue of senior-friendly magazine AARP is a (hopefully) exciting Bowie scoop: “David Bowie is recording his 42nd album, six years after heart surgery.”
Setting aside writer Ken Budd’s questionable discography math (studio, live, compilations, + Kidz Bop?), his assertion is rather feasible: Bowie has yet to release an album since his 2004 heart attack, making the 7-year gap between now and 2003’s Reality the longest in the great Ziggy Stardust’s 4-decade career.
As much as I’d love to trust our older friends at AARP, we’re still awaiting official confirmation on the next David Bowie LP. Fingers are crossed, of course, as new music from one of the world’s greatest — and most consistently brilliant — living artists will surely make our year (we do share a birthday, after all).
