Wavves’ Nathan Williams was one of the most hyped indie musicians in the blogosphere circa this time last year, following a glowing Pitchfork review, solid ink from the New York Times, and countless MP3 blog shout-outs. Though his reign upon the beloved new indie band throne was thwarted in part due to a drug-induced festival meltdown and high-profile row with the Black Lips’ Jared Swilley, the forthcoming follow-up to his breakout album, Wavvves, just might help the San Diego-based noisemaker regain the buzz band crown.
“WE ALSO FINISHED RECORDING A RECORD IN OXFORD MISSISSIPPI,” Williams wrote on his blog, Ghost Ramp (via Exclaim), “AND ARE CURRENTLY MIXING IT. SOUNDS CARAAAZAAAAAAYYY AND WILL BE OUT THIS SUMMER.” “We” presumably refers to Jay Reatard’s former bandmates Stephen Pope and Billy Hayes.
Will the new record include references to his eventful past year? Have Williams and Swilley squashed the beef and teamed up for a duet? So many questions, but these are the only details to surface just yet. Either way, let the hype begin… now.
