We were hoping something was up between Jon Brion and the Punch Brothers in the studio beyond their recent Fiona Apple collaboration, and it looks like we got our wish… Nonesuch Records announced today (via Dysonsound) that Brion and the bluegrass troupe have completed work on the follow-up to the band’s 2008 debut, Punch. Set for release on June 15th, the brothers Punch will drop Antifogmatic, a 10-track album produced by Brion at Hollywood’s Ocean Way Studios this past winter.
“We knew we needed a producer equally as well versed in pop and rock as in instrumental music,” said fiddler Gabe Witcher, ” and I don’t think there is anyone more able to capture and communicate the essence of this material than Jon Brion.”
Deluxe editions of the record come packaged with an instrumental EP, dubbed All of This Is True, as well as a live DVD of the band performing at the Living Room in New York City. Pre-order Antifogmatic, which takes its name from a 19th century term for “a bracing beverage, generally rum or whiskey, that a person would have before going out to work in rough weather to stave off any ill effects,” here.
