Dick Van Dyke and Chad Smith Record Rap Collab for Kids

“At my age, my generation, we are not particularly rap-crazy,” Dick Van Dyke, aka MC DVD, told Spinner recently about The Rhythm Train, a new children’s album featuring his hip-hop collaboration with Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. “Rap has a great beat, but I swear to God, I have never been able to understand one word. I don’t know what they’re saying.”

Though Van Dyke, 84, only offered rhymes for the record, Smith took advantage of a break from RHCP to lay down beats on the 13-track album and perform vocally as a few characters (pirate, train conductor, etc.). If you’re curious to hear Mary Poppins’ ex-chimney sweep and Will Ferrell’s Chad Smith’s foray into hip-hop, a pretty cringe-worthy clip from Smith and Van Dyke’s session for the song “D.V.D.” is above (via Paste).
