As you may recall, six members of Willie Nelson’s band and crew were arrested in Asheville, North Carolina last month for alleged possession of moonshine (“non-tax-paid alcohol”) and marijuana. The pot bust happened only an hour before Nelson announced the cancellation of the night’s planned concert due to a hand injury, though many former ticket-holders aren’t buying that story. One Nelson fan, however, is disgruntled over the incident for another reason altogether…
State Senator Charlie Albertson feels so strongly that Nelson’s tour buses were unfairly targeted by the Kenansville Police Department that he penned a pseudo-protest song, dubbed “Leave The Man Alone,” about Nelson and the incident, which is getting airplay on local country radio stations. “It just looks like a special effort was made to go on that bus and cite them with marijuana,” Albertson told Burlington Times News. “Why don’t they leave the man alone?” the chorus goes. “Let him write and sing his songs.”
Um… No offense to Albertson of course, but he probably shouldn’t quit his day job. To stream the tune, click here.
