Jazz legend Herbie Hancock’s forthcoming film and album, The Imagine Project, features collaborations with over a dozen artists performing from their respective home countries, which span many regions of the planet.
As AllAboutJazz.com reports, the likes of Jeff Beck, Oumou Sangare, Lionel Louke, Lisa Hannigan, Dave Matthews, Derek Trucks, Pink, Seal, Susan Tedeschi, Juanes, Wayne Shorter, Chaka Khan, Anoushka Shankar (daughter of Ravi Shankar), and the Chieftains took part in recording sessions in Paris, London, Miami, Ireland, Mumbai, and Sao Paulo.
Hancock hopes to explore the concept of music as a universal language on the project by “uniting a myriad of cultures through song and positive creative expression.” The Imagine Project album and film, which is produced by Oscar-winning writer/director Alex Gibney (Taxi To The Dark Side), is due out June 22.
