Aside from T Bone Burnett and Ryan Bingham’s win for Best Original Song at the Academy Awards last night (which I totes called back in November), the Oscars certainly wasn’t a notably music-related event. That was, however, until the second (and much more interesting, IMO) music video from now-Oscar winning director Kathryn Bigelow came to light.
Slicing Up Eyeballs scoured Bigelow’s IMDB page, which led them to one of her early directorial efforts: New Order’s “Touched by the Hand of God,” circa 1987. Once again, actor/failed singer Bill Paxton makes an appearance, though this time he isn’t singing (phew). I’ll admit James Cameron’s über-cheesy Martini Ranch video from 1988, which featured a Bigelow acting cameo, was wonderfully batshit crazy, but this time around she’s behind the lens, not to mention New Order is actually a band worth listening to.
