Zachary Quinto to Star in Spielberg’s George Gershwin Biopic

We knew that Steven Spielberg has been set to possibly produce and/or direct a George Gershwin biopic ever since DreamWorks purchased Doug Wright’s screenplay last fall, but today the project just made a big step forward: Star Trek/Heroes star Zachary Quinto has been cast to play Gershwin, according to Nikki Finke’s Deadline Hollywood.

That’s right, the new Spock has already teamed up with “accent and dialogue coaches” to prepare for his role as the legendary composer/songwriter because shooting might even start as early as this spring.

Frankly, before I saw Star Trek, a Quinto-starring biopic about a music legend would’ve been unfortunate in my eyes, but nowadays I think this could work. The only question left is who will they get to play George Gershwin’s older brother, writing partner and lyricist, Ira?
