Well, one of our favorite rumors of the week appears to be true: Ontario-born icon Neil Young is set to perform tonight (2/28) at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games closing ceremony in Vancouver, B.C. Details are scant at this time, but according to Young’s official site (via Strangers Almanac and Thrasher’s Wheat), Canada’s beloved singer-songwriter will take the stage to sing out this year’s Olympics.
Who knows what other surprises Vancouver has in store for tonight’s festivities (Leonard Cohen?), but this revelation sure guarantees that I’ll be tuning in.
Closing ceremonies will air live tonight at 8:30 EST on NBC, and we will update this post when/if video becomes available
*Update: As you may have heard, Neil’s song of choice was “Long May You Run.” Decent quality video for an encore viewing has yet to hit the web, but we’re still looking…
**Finally, we have video of the performance here.
