I really wanted to like Jakob Dylan’s last Rick Rubin-produced solo effort, Seeing Things, but alas, Rubin’s dry, up-close sonic aesthetic left Dylan’s songwriting a bit too naked for my taste. That’s the bad news, but here’s the good news: Dylan has teamed up with the producer of the first (and best) Wallflowers record (Bringing Down the Horse), T Bone Burnett, for Women and Country.
What’s more, Neko Case and her longtime collaborator Kelly Hogan have joined—our favorite living guitarist—Marc Ribot (Tom Waits, Plant/Krauss) as Dylan’s session band. We can add this project to our growing list of Neko Case collborations of late, which includes Travis’ Fran Healy’s solo project, the Peter Wolf’s forthcoming record, and, of course, the almighty Stephen King musical.
Dylan’s new Burnett-produced solo album is set for a spring release via (his famous father’s label!) Columbia Records. For the full track list, click here.
