I’m pretty sure Jimmy Fallon picked the perfect night to unleash the inevitable follow-up to his breakthrough “Neil Young Sings the ‘Fresh Prince’ Theme” performance. Sure, his predecessor, Conan O’Brien, is getting lots of love these days (and rightfully so! #teamconan), but what better way to celebrate Jay Leno getting served by Jimmy Kimmel than an instant classic clip of “the new guy” taking on an American Idol meme?
Full disclosure: I don’t usually watch American Idol and had no idea about 62 year old contestant Larry Platts’ original song “Pants on the Ground,” nor the subsequent internet sensation it spawned, but Antiquiet has since brought me up to speed.
There are a lot of favorite bits to choose from in Fallon’s Neil Young impression (never would’ve believed I’d be hyping this giggly ex-SNL member… oh wells…), but my favorite part from his previous impression and tonight’s is the pitch-perfect awkward Neil Young coda.
