It’s almost impossible to fathom the devastation in Haiti following the 7.0 earthquake that destroyed their capital and possibly left over 100,000 people dead. In fact, many are still missing, such as Jimmy O (Update: Jimmy O was killed in the earthquake, reports CNN), a young rapper whom Wyclef Jean mentioned in an interview with Anderson Cooper last night as part of his current campaign to raise awareness about the country’s desperate need for aid from the U.S. government and people around the world.
Specifically, Jean is backing the Yéle Haiti Foundation, asking that donations for Haiti disaster relief be made here or by texting “HAITI” to #90999 to donate $10 to the American Red Cross.
Coldplay’s Chris Martin has also released a statement, Devon24 reports, encouraging people to make donations to Oxfam, a charity which Martin once traveled to Haiti with and that the band have teamed up with numerous times over the years. “The earthquake that has struck Haiti will have turned the city into an unimaginable hell,” Martin said.
