TwentyFourBit’s way too young to start posting “Best Albums of the Decade” lists just yet, but if we did, rest assured that Camera Obscura’s last two albums would have a good shot at making the cut. Are you ever so excited to get lost in a new album that you put off listening to it in full for some reason? Well, maybe that’s just me, but I’m finally spinning My Maudlin Career nonstop these days and now the Glasgow-based group’s new holiday single, as well.
4AD are releasing Camera Obscura’s “The Blizzard” on Monday as a 7” vinyl and digital single (via The Needle Drop). The song, a cover of Jim Reeves’ classic forlorn cowboy tune, is certainly not your typical holiday treat, but what would you expect from this brilliantly melancholic band? If exuberance is what you’re looking for, watch Bob Dylan’s “Must Be Santa” video again, but if a tale about a man freezing to death on the way to meet his girlfriend is your cup of tea (and/or sad songs make you happy) click here or below to stream “The Blizzard.”
