To be honest, that headline took me by as much surprise as you, but let’s be clear: the Oscar shortlist is looong. 63 songs, in fact, have been revealed to be in contention for a “Best Original Song” nomination at the upcoming Academy Awards.
Karen O and Carter Burwell’s Where the Wild Things Are jams “All is Love” and “Hideaway” are included, of course, but (surprise!) Jack White’s impromptu written, recorded, and performed piece “Fly Farm Blues” in Davis Guggenheim’s It Might Get Loud documentary is also in contention.
Last but not least, there are loads of predictable Oscar bait songs still in the running, but how about a round of applause for Jarvis Cocker’s “Petey’s Song” from Fantastic Mr. Fox and Ed Helms’ “Stu’s Song” from The Hangover?
Yeah, they’re on there.
