Though I scoured the dozens of reports on David Fricke’s NYPL talk last week with the surviving members of my favorite Velvet Underground lineup (Lou Reed, Maureen Tucker, and Doug Yule) for a jarring bit or two about the legendary group, it sounded like a fairly uneventful event—save for Lou Reed’s apparent bitter outlook. Ryan Adams and Billy Corgan clearly didn’t let these folks know that the New York Public Library is a place for psychoanalytical musings and self-deprecating humor.
Now those of us who were unable to attend Fricke’s allegedly snoozy shindig can make up our own minds because the NYPL is offering a free (soundboard quality!) MP3 download of the discussion here or on their site here.
Meanwhile, the “Live from the NYPL” series has been nothing short of brilliant this year so send a donation here if you can.
