Ryan Adams and Mary-Louise Parker’s candid chat at the New York Public Library isn’t really news at this point, but the folks at the NYPL have brilliantly decided to share their “LIVE from the NYPL” series via free audio/video downloads and this particular front row footage from their YouTube channel caught my eye. So let’s embrace—what Ricky Gervais would call—”olds” for a moment.
Watch here or below as Ryan Adams recites his poem “White Diamond” from his second collection of poetry, Hello Sunshine. Whether you’re a fan of Adams’ exuberant aesthetic or not, you have to admit the guy possesses an insane ability to filter poetic imagery, be it in lyrics, paintings, essays, Garageband one-offs, short films, poetry, or in the former internet addict’s comment section binges. Sure, you have to forgive the occasional “porcelain pizza boxes” reference, but the overall effect of this inspired reading is pretty enthralling and/or creatively stimulating, if you ask me.
