Though many children of rock stars have proven to be decent artists in their own right (Harper Simon, Sean Lennon, etc.), they usually lack their parents’ ability to push the envelope or—in the case of Lennon especially—shock us. Enter Kellesimone Waits, daughter of our favorite married songwriting couple Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan.
Ms. Waits opened her provocative, political art show “Power Plays” earlier this week in Santa Monica, CA with family members, actors Johnny Depp and Harry Dean Stanton, and a slew of other famous people in attendance, reports Waits’ label Anti.
As shown in the image above or at the Frank Pictures Gallery site here, Waits’ portraits depict politicians, such as Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Condoleezza Rice, and Margaret Thatcher, as strippers, while Pope Benedict XVI is portrayed with pink acrylic paint dripping down his face, Alan Greenspan has a nude German Chancellor Angela Merkel clinging to his back, and Henry Kissinger just kinda looks like Ben Stein.
I know you were saving up your money for Kim Gordon’s “Noise Nomads” or Ryan Adams’ “City Rain,” but perhaps one of these may interest you.
