Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo may have used up his last ounce of indie cred recently by revealing his Fred Durst and Lady Gaga-decorated collaboration wish list, but Beyoncé and Solange Knowles are going in the other direction: using their mainstream success to hype indie bands, like the Dirty Projectors and Of Montreal.
Not only has Solange introduced her older sister Beyoncé and brother-in-law Jay-Z to Grizzly Bear and defied her former major label with an awesome cover of the Dirty Projectors, but now her indie influence may find its way onto Beyoncé’s next album (due out next year, BTW). Here’s the Beyoncé quote that’s sure to get the blogosphere buzzing. From the the Guardian (via Crumbler, via Hail The Pages Turning):
There’s so many people I’d like to work with still, but I’d like to maybe go outside of the box. My sister [Solange] has put me on to bands like Of Montreal and some other different types of artists. I would love to do something like that on my next album.
It’s a bit unclear from the quote whether she’s saying that she would like to work with Of Montreal or simply wants to incorporate their style of music into her next album, but either scenario would be awesome.
Now can we get Jon Brion involved with this, please?
