Not sure what it is about the New Moon and Fantastic Mr. Fox soundtracks, but they always make “news” around the same time. If you’ve been on Twitter, Tumblr, or most of the internet in the past 24 hours, you’re probably aware that the indie cred-begging New Moon soundtrack leaked on YouTube and elsewhere yesterday.
No such luck for Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox soundtrack, though, which has a pretty awesome tracklist as well. We do, however, have our first taste of Jarvis Cocker’s contribution at last.
In “Petey’s Song,” Cocker not only breaks out the banjo, but he also channels Appalachian folk music while dropping a few “Zip-A-Dee-Doo–Dah” inspired lyrics. I think we can safely say this is about as far from Pulp, or Britpop in general, as one could get (check out Guardian’s still of Cocker’s banjo-wielding character).
So grab your partner, common people, and do–si–do thataway.
