“The first time the stereo played ‘Politicians in My Eyes,’ I couldn’t believe what I was hearing,” Jack White said of Detroit-based punk band Death. “When I was told the history of the band and what year they recorded this music, it just didn’t make sense. Ahead of punk, and ahead of their time.”
The music of Death has been getting respect all over since its rediscovery earlier this year and now, according to Filter Magazine (via NME), the previously-unknown punk pioneers will be the subject of an upcoming documentary being put together by Mos Def and Damon Dash (two members of the new rap/rock supergroup Blakroc), directed by music video team Coodie and Chike.
“It’s going to be great,” Mos Def told Filter. “These dudes were pre-Sex Pistols, pre-Bad Brains, pre-all that shit, and nobody knows them. I don’t understand how the whole world could forget them.”
