Damien Rice sure likes to take his time between records. It took him four years to follow up his breakthrough debut O and now it’s been three years since 9. He has stayed busy, though: speaking and performing at Trinity College, Dublin, touring Mexico and South America, going on a 10-day, song-a-day road trip to Barcelona, and ditching Lisa Hannigan (which brought us the excellent Sea Sew, but more on that later).
According to an update on his official site (via Strangers Almanac), however, a new record and/or film is in the works. On November 4th and 5th, Rice will play four sessions at an undisclosed venue in Reykjavik, Iceland and only 90 lucky fans will get tickets for each of the sessions, which will be professionally recorded and filmed.
There’s no guarantee, of course, that these sessions will successfully result in a third LP or live DVD, but that does appear to be what they’re shooting for.
