I’ll admit that I’ve been tuning out all the Amy Winehouse rumor stories for a few months now and had almost gotten to the point of ignoring any headline with her name in it, but today’s news caught my eye: Winehouse has launched her own record label, called Lioness Records, and signed her first artist.
A press release on her official site reads: “Inspired by Berry Gordy’s Motown, and The Specials’ 2Tone label, Amy wanted to create a label where she could sign and work closely with a small roster of artists she really believed in.”
Winehouse, who got her start in the music business at a very young age, signed Dionne Bromfield, a 13-year-old singer from London who is also her goddaughter. “She’s so much better than I was at her age,” Winehouse said of Bromfield in the bio section of her MySpace, which also mentions that Winehouse lent her backing band and producer Jon Moon for upcoming release Introducing Dionne Bromfield.
