Thank god we can finally take the question mark off my “Ryan Adams Becomes Columnist?” post. We were teased with a song that was so obviously Adams (haven’t heard too many singer/songwriters tackle the “Elmo meets Black Sabbath” genre), but Name That Tune doesn’t count as fact-checking, I suppose. Long Player With D.R. Adams made its debut on The Awl this morning and it’s chock full of Adams shtick, including some standard Danzig, pizza, and Bruce Willis shout-outs. Oh, and a brand new video from D.R. Films, co-directed by the Mrs.
Adams gets sidetracked quite a bit, as he is wont to do, but his main goal is to promote a 1981 arcade game called GORF. A handy breakdown of the different levels of GORF is provided, but I think a better endorsement comes earlier in the post with, “Playing Gorf is like getting wasted…” First hit’s for free, kids.
For Mandy Moore’s (debut?) co-directorial outing, which features a demo of GORF by Adams himself, go here. The intro and finale are the most fun, but as for the middle portion, I can kinda see why that whole ‘watching people play videos games’ activity never took off.
P.S. Funny he should mention Danzig, as we’ve got more on that topic coming later today.
