The Toronto International Film Festival is turning into quite the musical event this year, hosting the premiere of the new White Stripes film, Under Great White Northern Lights, Jonathan Demme’s second Neil Young documentary, and a free outdoor concert by Young himself. That last exciting bit was surprisingly buried in a caption from a longer article (via Thrasher’s Wheat) in the Toronto Star earlier today.
Young’s role in the festival was originally called only a guest appearance in support of Demme’s documentary Neil Young Trunk Show at Toronto’s Yonge-Dundas Square, but the photo caption suggests a much bigger appearance by the native Canadian: “Neil Young, bottom right, will be giving a free outdoor concert as part of a more ‘user-friendly’ initiative.”
I have no idea what a free outdoor show has to do with being “user-friendly,” but I’m certainly not complaining about a free Neil Young show. As I mentioned earlier today, I’m gonna need a helicopter for all these epic gigs.
