Radiohead fans are still buzzing about Thom Yorke’s killer solo set at Latitude over the weekend, but I just found out that the festival was almost the site of another epic Radiohead side project. According to Adam Buxton, a BBC 6 DJ and collaborator on the band’s Scotch Mist film, guitarist/keyboardist Jonny Greenwood declined an offer to join the reformed lineup of Magazine, At Ease reports. Here’s what Buxton said:
Thom Yorke was saying they’d asked Jonny Greenwood if he would be up for playing. But I think Jonny was just overwhelmed, cause he’s the biggest Magazine fan in the world. He was just too shy, I think. I’m sure he’s got all those licks in his locker.
It’s funny to think of a multi-instrumentalist from one of the biggest bands in the world being “just too shy” (I mean, the dude composed the There Will Be Blood score, for crying out loud), but I guess even rock stars can get starstruck too.
