An IMDb Pro page for a film adaptation of Jessica Blank’s novel Almost Home lists a credit for a curious first time producer: W. Axl Rose. Frankly, I’m surprised Axl didn’t delve into producing movies earlier, but perhaps he was waiting for the right project, as Almost Home seems like a perfect fit for the LA-based rock star. “With rare candor and searing prose, the author introduces seven unforgettable teens living on the streets of Los Angeles who form their own dysfunctional family, complete with love, belonging, abuse, and betrayal,” the book’s synopsis reads.
What’s more, Axl’s name would fit in perfectly with a few of the main characters from the story: Rusty, Eeyore, Critter, Squid, Izzy, Duff, Slash… Okay, just the first four are from the book.
In a strange twist, Jon Bon Jovi was originally slated to produce, as reported by Variety back in 2007. It’s unclear if Bon Jovi is still involved in the project, but it’s possible that he pulled out and Mr. W. Axl Rose started writing checks for the feature film.
It could be a good flick, but if Axl starts requesting aircraft carriers and dolphins again, someone better keep an eye on the budget.
