Alanis Morissette’s first major acting role was as God in Kevin Smith’s Dogma, but she hasn’t pursued acting much since then, save for a cameo on Sex and the City and brief stint on Nip/Tuck. Today we learned that Morissette will give her inner thespian another go with a role on the fifth season of Weeds.
EW reports that Alanis will play Dr. Audra Kitson, an obstetrician to Mary-Louise Parker’s pregnant character, Nancy. Apparently, Morissette’s scheduled 7-episode run will include “some tasteful nudity,” most likely involving her character’s attempt to bed Andy Botwin, played by Justin Kirk.
Weeds has had other cameos by musicians before, including an appearance by weed-connoisseur Snoop Dogg and She & Him’s Zooey Deschanel. According to IMDB, Morissette isn’t only bringing her acting skills to cable television; she’s slated to star in two upcoming feature films, Radio Free Albemuth and The Other Side. The latter also lists Dave Matthews and Tool’s Maynard James Keenan as co-stars.
